What it is

Chipping, as one might think intuitively, is the action of taking away an opponent’s life little by little. Thus, its primary meaning involves the little bits of damage taken when blocking certain attacks (particularly from special moves). Hence:

  • “Chip damage” refers to damage done in this fashion
  • It also refers to the amount of damage done (often measured in visible pixels instead of, say, offensive output or percentage)
  • Chipping can be done intentionally to deal damage (for example, to achieve a chip K.O.)
